This course, a required, for-credit course of the Institute of Fair Management and is ideal for new board members, staff members who may not work in the finance department, or even volunteers who want to gain knowledge about financial workings of fairs.
Topics to be covered include:
*What is a financial statement?
*Developing a Chart of Accounts
*Using the P&L for planning
*Budgets – defining, creating, understanding – and making them work for you.
Dennis Magruder is the Executive Director of the WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia. The arena seats 7,800 and is home to two minor league sports franchises, The Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL, and the Ohio Wheeling Wildcats of the Continental Indoor Football League. Dennis has served in this capacity for the last 20 years.
Dennis received a degree in Accounting / Business Administration from West Liberty State College. He served in many finance capacities for the City of Wheeling, was the Business Manager/Comptroller of the Marshall County School District and has worked for a Certified Public Accounting firm specializing in field audits and governmental accounting.
In April 1986, Dennis assumed his current position. He joined International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM) and was a member of the first graduating class (1988) of Public Facility Management School. Since that time, he has served as a faculty member and Regent of the school and is a past chair of the Board of Regents. He has served on numerous IAAM committees and as an officer of District II for several years. He has been active in IAFE for a number of years as an Associate Member, regularly attends the annual Convention and Trade Show and also serves as faculty for "Financial Management II” in the Institute of Fair Management.
