Denny Magruder is the Executive Director of the Sports and Entertainment Authority in Wheeling, West Virginia, also the home of the IAVM’s Venue Management School at Oglebay. The Authority operates a 2,350 seat Capitol Theater and the 7,800 seat WesBanco Arena which is home to the Wheeling Nailers Hockey Team. He has served in this capacity since 1986.
Denny received a degree in Accounting / Business Administration from West Liberty State University. After graduation he served in many finance capacities with the City of Wheeling including utility rate analyst, budget director and Urban Renewal Treasurer. He then joined the Certified Public Accounting firm of Jack. J. Ferlise Co. specializing in field audits and governmental accounting. In 1978 he was appointed Business Manager / Comptroller of the Marshall County School District.
In April 1986, Denny assumed his current position. He joined IAVM and was a member of the first graduating class in 1988 of Venue Management School. Denny has been presenting the Financial Management courses at the International Association of Fairs and Expositions "Institute of Fair Management” since 2009 and is an active Associate Member.
He is the Treasurer of the Wheeling Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and has served on its Executive Committee for many years. He has been inducted into the "Wheeling Hall of Fame” for his service to the committee and to the "Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Hall of Fame” for his service and support of the Conference.
